Since it was established in 1942, the King County Library System has grown its collection and locations, to what you see today – 49 libraries from Vashon to Skykomish, a collection of 4.1 million items, and 10 million visitors annually. KCLS and the KCLS Foundation, founded in 1991, work together to provide core services while making innovative ideas and pilot programs possible.
The King County Library System Foundation promotes literacy, learning, and libraries by providing support beyond public funding for initiatives and resources that enable the King County Library System to better serve the needs of our community.
Equity in access and opportunity is at the core of the KCLS Foundation’s vision for the library’s role in our community. We support KCLS in its continuous effort to be an ecosystem where everyone has access to the resources necessary to succeed in society and to thrive as individuals.
